Home / Services / Panel Upgrades
Replace outdated fuse boxes and overloaded panels with modern, clearly labelled distribution boards fitted with RCD, RCBO and surge protection.
Panel Upgrades
Your distribution board decides how safely electricity reaches every circuit. Old rewireable fuses, boards with no residual current protection, or panels with every way already used make it harder to add appliances safely — and slower to restore power when something trips.
We size and install a new board for your current and future loads, separate circuits so one fault doesn’t shut down the whole property, add surge protection for sensitive electronics and label everything clearly. The result is a safer installation that’s easier to live with.
Upgrade Signs
A board upgrade is one of the most effective safety improvements you can make. Here’s when we usually recommend it.
Rewireable fuses offer far less protection than modern breakers and RCDs.
One fault taking out every circuit usually means protection isn’t split sensibly.
Adding an AC unit, EV charger or kitchen needs spare, correctly rated ways.
Heat, buzzing or a burning smell at the board needs immediate investigation.
Surge protection helps protect computers, TVs and smart devices from voltage spikes.
If nobody knows which breaker does what, isolating safely in an emergency is difficult.
Our Process
1
We test the existing installation and calculate the loads your new board needs to handle.
2
You approve the board layout, protection devices and the time power will be off.
3
The new board is fitted, circuits are re-terminated and earthing is verified.
4
Every circuit is tested, labelled and recorded, and we show you how to reset devices.
Why Choose Us
We schedule changeovers to minimise downtime — most homes are without power for only part of a day. You’ll get a clear explanation of each device on your new board and what to do if one trips.
Branded breakers, RCDs and RCBOs from established manufacturers.
Changeovers planned and prepared in advance to keep the power-off window short.
Spare capacity for future air conditioning, EV charging or solar.
Questions
For most homes, between three and six hours. We confirm the timing in advance so you can plan around it.
An RCD protects a group of circuits against earth leakage; an RCBO combines that protection with overload protection on a single circuit, so one fault only affects that circuit.
If you have computers, smart appliances or expensive electronics, surge protection is a sensible, low-cost addition. We’ll advise based on your installation.
A new board improves protection and makes faults easier to isolate, but if an underlying fault exists we will find and repair it as part of the job.
Yes. We upgrade distribution boards for shops, offices and small commercial premises, including three-phase installations.
Need several jobs done at once? We can combine them into one visit and one quote.
